Nishrin Azzely Qowamuna

Nishrin holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Berkeley Law, with a specialisation in Environmental Law, and a Bachelor of Laws from Universitas Indonesia. Prior to joining Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), she worked at the Environmental Justice Foundation, an international non-governmental organisation, where she was involved in campaign and research activities related to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and human rights abuses in the fisheries sector. She also worked at an Indonesian policy think tank, the Centre for Regulation, Policy, and Governance, where her research focused on water services. Her work included legal and policy research on rural water services in Indonesia, mutual accountability mechanisms in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the sanitation sector.

She is currently a doctoral researcher in the International Doctorate Programme in Business and Human Rights at FAU. Her research interest lies in the protection of migrant fishers in the global fisheries sector, with particular attention to business and human rights perspectives and the interaction of labour and fisheries law.
